There seems to be a widespread misconception that free-verse poetry is poetry without form. The fact is that each poem has its own unique form, which is gradually discovered by the poet in the process of creating the poem. Indeed for me, the expansion of mind that comes with gradually uncovering the poem’s form is the main (perhaps only) motivation for writing the poem in the first place. And I’m sure every poet understands the vital importance of preserving the integrity of that form through whatever processes of revision and editing the poem might be subjected to.
